The client wanted an infinity edge on the downhill side without a conventional stone or concrete retaining wall breaking the sightline to the valley — the solution was a load-bearing laminated structural glass wall, engineered to carry the full hydrostatic load of a 42,000-gallon pool with the mountain view running straight through it uninterrupted.
Aspen’s freeze-thaw cycle meant the glass wall and every line in the mechanical room had to be designed for a full seasonal drain: the pool empties by late October and the structural panel is detailed to sit dry and unloaded through winter without stress-cracking on the first spring fill.
