Northlight Cascade steps water down four separate weir faces before it reaches the collection basin at ground level — each face is glazed in textured rainscreen glass, whose linear ribbing was chosen specifically to break a falling sheet into a woven, fabric-like texture rather than the flat, uniform bead a smooth panel produces at this height.
At seven metres, the top weir has to shed roughly four times the flow variance of the bottom one before it reads as one continuous cascade rather than four separate features stacked on top of each other — most of the engineering time on this project went into tuning each step’s flow rate independently to compensate.
